Papalotes is the State of Oaxaca’s first pre-school that is based on the Montessori, Waldorf and Freinet educational theories. We offer a bilingual educational program (English and Spanish) that emphasizes art and ecology.
Our goal is to equip our children with the tools that they will need to successfully function and learn throughout their school years and later on in life. We help them develop their self-esteem and teach them to respect fellow human beings. We guide them in discovering their strengths and weaknesses, and help them handle success as well as setbacks. Find out more about our core teaching values here.
Papalotes currently has six children between the ages of three and four, and we will soon open up our doors to children with special needs. We plan on further developing our organization to include an elementary school in 2011. Our long-term goal is to offer a complete K-12 educational program to as many children as possible in this part of Mexico. Learn more about our latest news here.
Papalotes is financed by monthly tuition fees as well as by private donations. We are grateful for any contributions, be they big or small. If you are interested in making a donation, you can find information on how to do so here.
Papalotes is a non-profit organization that was founded in spring 2009 by a group of parents who wanted to create an alternative to the existing Mexican educational system. Papalotes means “flying kites”, but is also an acronym for Padres Pro Aprendizaje Lúdico Orientado a Transformar la Educación Social – which translates roughly into Parents For Learning-Through-Play For the Transformation of Social Education.
